
Dr. Hisham AlArabi
Hesham Farouk Elarabi assumes the role of a consultant on medical and technical subject matters and projects. He brings over 20 years of experience in mental health. He has developed and delivered the landmark clinical trial, the Suboxone Treatment and Rehabilitation Trial (STAR-T), in collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, King’s College London. START is assumed to set the stage for a paradigm shift in treatment of opioid use disorders and will facilitate safe access to opioid assisted treatment. Previously, Dr. Elarabi several roles including head of health education, research, and studies and contributed to establishing school and family based prevention programs and social mobilization. He contributed to policy, advocacy and legislative amendments and contributed to the transformation of treatment and care services. Hesham also established key capacity building programs including the Diploma in Applied Psychological Skills in collaboration with Maudsely International, and College of Medicine and Health Sciences-UAE University.

He is has several publications across addiction sciences in high impact journals like Addiction. Hesham’s research interests include pharmacopsychiatry, neurobiology and integration of imaging in treatment planning, cognitive and memory, social psychology and individual differences, and artificial intelligence in responses to mental health challenges.
Dr. Elarabi is American board certified in psychiatry pharmacotherapy and specializes in medication assisted treatment of substance use disorders. Academically, Hesham has completed Doctor of Philosophy in Addictions at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences at King’s College London. He holds a Master of Science in Addiction Studies-King’s College London-UK/ Adelaide University-Australia, Diploma in Applied Clinical Psychological Skills- College of Medicine and Health Sciences-UAE University, Masters in Psychology©- Brunel University-UK, and a diploma in project management-Cambridge University-UK. Hesham completed his post graduate clinical doctorate training at Indiana University-Purdue University hospitals in the United States. Hesham is an International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP) and trained in Refugee Trauma from Harvard University Medical School, Project Management-London University. He is qualified to practice in his home country Canada, United States, UAE and Egypt.
